History of Ferro Jewelers
Our Woodstock store opened in 1981 and is owned and operated by Nicholas and Beverly Ferro.
In 1947, Nicholas Ferro, Sr., Nick's father, started Essex Jewelers in Newark, New Jersey. By the late 1960's the company had become one of the leading ring designers and manufactures in the country, serving over 1,000 retail jewelry stores. Nick's love of art and design led him into the family business in 1962, where he designed the jewelry lines for almost 12 years. After selling the family business, Nick and Beverly developed a retail jewelry store in Bernardsville, NJ where they designed custom pieces for the public.
In 1981 the Ferros moved to Vermont where they rented a small space at 11 Central Street in Woodstock and continued to design jewelry for the public. In 1986 Nick and Beverly purchased the building and expanded their retail space to include an Estate Jewelry section. They attended many shows and auctions and today have created one of the finest collections of estate jewelry in New England.
In 1995, Nicholas Ferro won 1st prize for his diamond ring design in the DeBeers Diamonds Today Contest held in New York City. In 1996 Mike Kelley, Ferro's master jeweler, won the AGTA Spectrum Award for his tourmaline pendant. Mike specializes in platinum and has been with the company since 1986.
In 2006 Nick’s son Bryan Ferro decided to join in the family business and opened a second location at 91 Main Street in Stowe Vermont. With Bryan’s involvement Ferro Jewelers in continuing to promote itself as a high end Vermont Brand. In July 2008 Ferro Jewelers opened its third location inside the Stowe Mountain Lodge at Spruce Peak in Stowe, Vermont. This third location tailors primarily to guests of the 5-Star Resort, as well as visitors to the Stowe Mountain area. |
